$93.2 million announced today is for the streamlined and successful Multifamily
Housing Program (MHP) which provides funding for affordable rental housing for
working families, the elderly and disabled and other special needs populations.
Eligible costs include developing the housing units, and space for child care, after
school care and social services facilities linked to the assisted housing unit.
Applicants are local public entities, for profit and non-profit corporations, limited
housing cooperatives, Indian reservations and rancherias and limited

SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE TEAMS WITH ACCION SAN DIEGO TO HELP NATIONAL CITY RESIDENTS SET-UP LICENSED CHILD CARE BUSINESSES
CHULA VISTA – Southwestern College’s Family Resource Center is teaming up with
ACCION San Diego, a non-profit, micro-lending loan agency, to assist National City residents to set up their own licensed, child care business at home. National City residents wishing to establish their own licensed child care business at home are offered to attend information sessions that are part of a new Microenterprise Family Child Care Program for low income residents. The Program was established with a $600,000 grant from the U.S. Department of HUD. The Family Resource Center will provide
academic and practical child care training to residents in that city, as well as access to the comprehensive
support services needed to start their own home-based, child care business. All coursework and services will be free. Free child care will be provided. “The project will give our target population an opportunity to improve their economic well-being,” said
Cynthia Nagura, the Program’s Director. Through the Program, participants will have access to comprehensive coursework, free child care, and workshops on health and social services. After participants have completed the Program and have developed a business plan, ACCION will work with them to provide start-up business loans ranging from $300 to $5,000, given that they meet required qualifications.
