Divorce Records in the state of Ohio. Divorce records are maintained by the court of common pleas in each county. Prior to 1851, the records were found in either the county supreme court, the county chancery court, or the county common pleas court. Appeals were made to the state legislature. After 1913 divorces were handled by a division of the county court of common pleas known as the domestic relations court.
January 22, 2004. Ohio Judge's Sealing Own Divorce Records. The fact that Judge Paulette Lilly had her own divorce records sealed came as a surprise to her colleagues on a state panel that is deciding which court records should be kept private. Lilly, a Lorain County common pleas judge, filed for divorce last January from her husband, Nicholas Streza. At Lilly's request, Common Pleas judge David Basinski ordered her divorce file sealed.
