Kansas Vital Records Fees Change

The Secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Roderick Bremby, announced a revised fee schedule for copies, abstracts and searches of Kansas vital records. The changes, effective July 1, were necessary to implement enactment of Kansas House Bill No. 2423 related to financing the civil registration and health statistics functions of the Center for Health and Environmental Statistics. The revised fee schedule, established by amendment of K.A.R. 28-17-6, includes:

• Issuing certified copies or abstracts of birth, fetal death, marriage or divorce certificates, or verifying any of the same -- $12.00 for the first copy, abstract or verification and $7.00 for each additional copy or abstract of the same record requested at the same time.
• Issuing certified copies or abstracts of death certificates, or verifying the same -- $13.00 for the first copy, abstract or verification and $8.00 for each additional copy or abstract of the same record requested at the same time.
• Any search of files and records for birth, fetal death, marriage or divorce when no record is located or certified copy or abstract is made -- $12.00 for each five-year period for which a search is requested, or for each fractional part of a five-year period.
• Any search of files and records for death when no record is located or certified copy or abstract is made -- $13.00 for each five-year period for which a search is requested, or for each fractional part of a five-year period.
• Amending a birth, fetal death, marriage or divorce certificate or abstract already on file -- $12.00.
• Amending a death certificate or abstract already on file -- $13.00.
• Establishing a new certificate or abstract of birth following an adoption -- $12.00.
• Application for a delayed certificate of birth -- $10.00 (No Change).
• Non-certified copies or abstracts or parts of certificates or abstracts requested for research or statistical purposes – Fees and manner of payment to be determined by the State Registrar.
