California public records in the news
The benefits of implementing Enterprise Vault software extend to the public sector as well. The City of Oceanside, Calif., the third largest city in San Diego County with a population of 165,000 has been using VERITAS Enterprise Vault software since 2001. The city receives between 9,000 and 12,000 e-mails a day, which the California Public Records Act mandates must be retained and made available upon a citizen's request. All e-mails that pass through the city's Microsoft Exchange environment are automatically indexed and stored in original format using VERITAS Enterprise Vault software, enabling Oceanside's IT department to fulfill public records requests in minutes instead of days—translating into a significant cost savings.
"Enterprise Vault helps ensure that critical public records won't be lost or accidentally deleted. Using Enterprise Vault, we have reduced our e-mail records search and retrieval time by 95 percent," said Michael Sherwood, CIO, City of Oceanside. "Reducing the time spent recovering public records improves my team's productivity, and saving time means saving money. More importantly, we're providing our citizens with an efficient means of accessing information. They know if they request information, we'll provide it quickly."
