Beware of fraudulent phone calls, letters, e-mails and other communications from professional asset finders and unclaimed money tracers, which offer help in finding Unclaimed Property for an upfront fee or percentage of the found property or cash. Why pay big bucks to professionals for what you could easily do yourself in Kansas without spending even a penny. Find lost treasure belonging to you or to any of your friend or relative, and become a hero of the family or neighborhood.

Kansas unclaimed moneys in the news
$702,205 worth of unclaimed property and cash was claimed by Kansas State Fair attendees at the agency's Unclaimed Property booth. This total represents the second largest amount ever returned during the Kansas State Fair. In 1998, $773,182 in lost or forgotten property and cash was claimed during the same 10-day period.
Another record was set in the Kansas Unclaimed Property program. During the last fiscal year, over $11 million of unclaimed property was returned to Kansans. Usually $8 to $9 million is returned each year. The program receives $12 to $15 million worth of Unclaimed Property annually from banks, businesses and organizations on behalf of Kansans. The Unclaimed Property division of the Kansas State Treasurer's office has more than $175 million in outstanding financial assets for more than 755,000 owners.
Sept. 26, 2006
Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District-KS) today announced that 17,100 Kansans are owed a total of $16,433,000 in unclaimed tax refunds because they failed to file an income tax return for 2001. The median unclaimed refund in Kansas is $454. According to the IRS, unclaimed refunds totaling more than $2 billion are awaiting about 1.7 million people across the United States who failed to file an income tax return for 2001.
